Narendra Modi Welcomes Ayushman Bharat Rollout in West Bengal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed the decision of the newly formed BJP government in West Bengal to implement the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in the state. The move is expected to provide major healthcare benefits to eligible families through the Centre’s flagship medical insurance programme.
The announcement was made by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari following the first cabinet meeting of the new government. He stated that the administration has approved several key decisions, including the implementation of Ayushman Bharat, as part of its promise to bring “Asol Poriborton” or “real change” to the state.
Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, eligible households receive annual health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh for medical treatment and hospitalisation. The programme is considered one of the world’s largest public healthcare initiatives and aims to make quality healthcare more affordable and accessible for economically weaker sections.
Reacting to the development, PM Modi expressed happiness over the decision and said the people of West Bengal would now benefit from improved healthcare access through the Central scheme. He also stated that the “double-engine government” would help ensure smooth implementation of welfare programmes and faster delivery of public services in the state.
The BJP recently formed its first-ever government in West Bengal after securing a major victory in the Assembly elections. The party won 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, while the All India Trinamool Congress was reduced to 80 seats.
The implementation of Ayushman Bharat in West Bengal is expected to benefit lakhs of families by reducing healthcare expenses and improving access to medical services across urban and rural regions of the state.
