Large Participation Marks ‘Temple Yoga’ Event Near Chittoor Ahead of International Yoga Day
A large number of yoga enthusiasts, students, senior citizens, government officials, and residents gathered near Chittoor on Monday to participate in a unique "Temple Yoga" programme organised in the scenic surroundings of the Puligundeswara Swamy Hillock Temple at Penumuru. The event was held as part of preparations for International Yoga Day 2026 and aimed to raise awareness of the importance of yoga in daily life.
The programme was attended by District Collector Sumit Kumar, who encouraged people to make yoga a regular habit rather than an occasional activity. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that yoga plays a crucial role in maintaining both physical fitness and mental well-being in today's fast-paced world.
Set against the backdrop of the temple's famous twin rock formations, the event created a peaceful atmosphere that highlighted the connection between nature, spirituality, and health. Participants performed a variety of yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques under the guidance of trained yoga instructors.
The Collector noted that rising levels of stress, anxiety, and lifestyle-related health issues have made yoga more relevant than ever. He stated that regular yoga practice can help individuals improve flexibility, concentration, emotional balance, and overall quality of life. According to him, yoga is a simple yet powerful tool that can benefit people of all age groups.
The programme was jointly organised by the Tourism Department and the Education Department as part of the district administration's broader efforts to promote wellness and healthy living. Officials said awareness campaigns, training sessions, and community outreach programmes are being conducted across both urban and rural areas to encourage greater participation in yoga activities.
Sumit Kumar also highlighted the importance of combining yoga with other healthy habits such as regular walking, balanced nutrition, and adequate rest. He urged students, working professionals, homemakers, and senior citizens to dedicate a small portion of their day to yoga for long-term health benefits.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from attendees, many of whom appreciated the opportunity to practice yoga in a serene temple environment. Organisers expressed confidence that such initiatives would inspire more people to embrace yoga as a lifelong practice and contribute to building a healthier community.
With International Yoga Day approaching, district authorities plan to conduct several more awareness and fitness programmes across Chittoor district to encourage citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles and experience the benefits of yoga firsthand.
