Actor Jameel Khan, who once again returns as the beloved Santosh Mishra in Gullak 5, is currently making headlines for the latest season of the popular OTT series. In a candid conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, he opened up about the show’s journey, its growing popularity, and what lies ahead for him.

‘Gullak 5’ and its milestone achievement

Speaking about the fifth season, Jameel Khan called it a “blessing,” especially since Gullak has become the first OTT series to reach its fifth instalment. He expressed gratitude for the audience’s continued support and hoped the series would keep growing with each season.

“This achievement feels divine. I only hope the show continues season after season and keeps entertaining people. We are extremely excited and hope this season surpasses the earlier ones. Everything that made Gullak special is still very much alive in this season,” he said.

Maintaining the charm since 2019

When asked how the team has managed to maintain consistency over the years, Jameel explained that professionalism and preparation are key.

“We are professional actors. It becomes easier when the script arrives before the shoot. We do workshops, readings, and try to understand the tone together. By the time we go on set, everything falls into place naturally,” he shared.

What makes a show successful?

According to him, the foundation of any successful show is honesty in storytelling and commitment from everyone involved.

“There should be integrity in the work. Also, a passion to protect what we’ve built together. Sometimes things can go wrong due to financial pressure or carelessness, but we always try to ensure that doesn’t happen with Gullak,” he said.

He further added that success comes from collective effort: “Whether it is the actors, TVF, or SonyLIV, all of us work with the same dedication. We give our heart and soul to every season.”

Why seven episodes in Season 5?

On the decision to have seven episodes in the new season, Jameel said it was driven by audience demand.

“The popularity of the show is the reason behind it. Personally, even five episodes would work because it leaves the audience wanting more. But since this is Season 5, maybe the makers felt fans deserved a little extra. And honestly, people love it so much that they might even ask for ten episodes,” he said with a smile.

Impact of success on his journey

Reflecting on how Gullak changed his career, the actor shared that the biggest reward has been the audience’s affection.

“Success always brings positive change. For me, the greatest blessing is the love I receive from viewers. I had never experienced such immense public appreciation before. This show has truly given me recognition and warmth from people everywhere,” he concluded.
