Narendra Modi Welcomes Ayushman Bharat Implementation in West Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised the newly formed BJP government in West Bengal for deciding to implement the Ayushman Bharat healthcare scheme in the state. He stated that the move would help lakhs of families gain access to affordable and quality medical treatment.

The announcement was made by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari after the first cabinet meeting of the new state government. He confirmed that the Ayushman Bharat scheme would soon be introduced across West Bengal, providing eligible households with annual health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh.

Reacting to the decision, PM Modi said the welfare of the people of West Bengal remains a top priority and expressed happiness that citizens of the state would now benefit from one of the world’s largest healthcare programmes. He also said that the “double-engine government” would help ensure faster and smoother implementation of major Central welfare schemes.

The Ayushman Bharat programme is designed to support economically weaker families by reducing medical expenses and offering cashless treatment at empanelled hospitals across the country. The scheme has already benefited millions of people in different states through financial assistance for hospitalisation and critical healthcare services.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari described the decision as part of the government’s larger vision of bringing “Asol Poriborton” or “real change” to West Bengal. Along with Ayushman Bharat, the new administration reportedly approved several major policy decisions during its first cabinet session.

The BJP formed its first government in West Bengal after securing a major victory in the Assembly elections. The party won 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, while the All India Trinamool Congress was reduced to 80 seats.

The implementation of Ayushman Bharat in West Bengal is expected to improve healthcare accessibility for families across both urban and rural areas while easing the financial burden of medical treatment.
