Hyderabad Jail Offers 24-Hour Prison Experience for Citizens

Chanchalguda Central Jail in Hyderabad has introduced a unique public initiative that allows ordinary citizens to experience prison life for a limited period. Named “Feel the Jail,” the immersive program allows visitors to spend either 12 hours or 24 hours inside specially designed prison barracks that recreate the atmosphere of a real jail environment.

Under the new initiative, participants can choose a 24-hour jail experience for ₹2,000 or opt for a shorter 12-hour stay priced at ₹1,000. Officials say the program is designed to help people understand prison conditions, daily routines, discipline, and the emotional realities faced by inmates behind bars.

The specially prepared barracks closely resemble actual prison accommodations. Some rooms feature a single bed with a simple bedsheet, an earthen pot for drinking water, basic washroom facilities, and iron grills separating the occupant from the outer corridor. The interiors are minimalistic, reflecting the strict and disciplined lifestyle followed inside correctional facilities.

Visitors can also explore shared barracks where multiple beds are arranged opposite each other to simulate common inmate living arrangements. The facility additionally includes a high-security section protected by double-layered grills, giving participants a glimpse into stricter confinement systems used for high-risk prisoners.

Apart from the jail stay experience, authorities have also opened access to the prison museum located within the premises. Entry tickets for the museum have been priced at ₹10 for students and ₹20 for general visitors, while children below 10 years of age can enter free of cost.

Officials believe the “Feel the Jail” initiative will not only attract curious visitors and tourists but also spread awareness about prison administration, inmate life, and the importance of discipline and law-abiding behaviour. The concept is already drawing attention on social media due to its unusual approach to public engagement.

The initiative makes Hyderabad one of the few cities in India offering civilians a controlled and educational prison experience within an operational correctional environment.
