Bihar Revenue Department Intensifies Crackdown: 23 Officials Face Action in a Week
The Bihar Revenue and Land Reforms Department has escalated its anti-corruption drive, initiating disciplinary action against eight more Circle Officers and revenue officials, bringing the total number of officials facing action to 23 within a week.
The move is part of the state government’s strict enforcement of its “zero tolerance” policy against corruption and administrative irregularities in land and revenue management.
Fresh Disciplinary Actions Ordered
In the latest round of action, departmental proceedings, charge framing, salary increment stoppages, and special inquiry committees have been approved by the department. Officials said Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal personally cleared multiple punitive measures after reviewing departmental files.
The government reiterated that any negligence or malpractice in matters related to government land records, mutation processes, land corrections, and revenue services will face strict consequences.
Cases of Alleged Irregularities Surface
Several officials have been named in connection with serious allegations:
-
A former Dehri Circle Officer was accused of failing to act in a case involving manipulation of government land records and illegal transfer of public property.
-
A revenue officer currently serving in Buxar was penalized with stoppage of one salary increment for allegedly recommending mutation by wrongly classifying non-settlement land as private land.
-
A former Gopalganj revenue officer has been charge-sheeted after being caught allegedly accepting a bribe in a Vigilance Bureau trap.
-
A Motipur Circle Officer faces inquiry over alleged illegal mutation of Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) land in favor of a private individual.
-
Another official is under probe for financial irregularities involving over ₹11 lakh in flood relief funds.
In addition, multiple officers from Begusarai, Bagaha, Ramgarhwa, and West Champaran have been accused of record manipulation, procedural violations, and failure to verify land ownership before approving mutations.
High-Level Inquiry and Monitoring
The department has constituted special investigation teams and a two-member headquarters-level inquiry committee to examine serious cases involving land transfer irregularities and financial misconduct.
Officials said strict monitoring mechanisms have been strengthened to ensure accountability at every level of revenue administration.
Government’s Zero Tolerance Stand
Revenue Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal stated that safeguarding government land and ensuring transparent public service delivery remain top priorities.
He emphasized that the department will continue to take stringent action against any officer found guilty of corruption, negligence, or misuse of authority.
Continued Crackdown Across the State
This marks the third major disciplinary action within a week. Earlier actions included measures against 14 officials on May 27 and another officer on June 1, highlighting the department’s ongoing drive to clean up revenue administration.
With the latest wave of action, Bihar’s revenue system is witnessing one of its most aggressive anti-corruption enforcement phases in recent times.
