DA Hike Announced in Odisha, Bihar and Tamil Nadu

Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Bihar Increase DA for Employees; Bengal Likely to Announce Revision Soon

Multiple state governments across India have approved new Dearness Allowance (DA) hikes for government employees and pensioners in recent days. Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar have already confirmed revised DA rates, while a similar announcement is expected soon from West Bengal.

The latest revisions are expected to provide additional financial support to lakhs of employees and retirees dealing with rising inflation and increasing living expenses.

Odisha Raises DA to 60%

The Government of Odisha has approved a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance for state employees and pensioners.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi confirmed that the revised DA rate has been increased from 58% to 60%.

The revised amount will be effective from January 1, 2026, and employees are expected to receive the updated allowance with their May salary payments. Pensioners will also benefit from a 2% rise in Temporary Increase (TI), which will be included in their upcoming pension disbursement.

Bihar and Tamil Nadu Also Approve DA Relief

The governments of Bihar and Tamil Nadu have also moved ahead with Dearness Allowance revisions for serving employees and pensioners.

Officials in Bihar are additionally expected to discuss another possible DA adjustment during an upcoming cabinet meeting. Government employees in the state are closely monitoring the discussions for further salary-related benefits.

The DA hikes are intended to reduce the financial burden caused by inflation and rising household expenses.

West Bengal Employees Await Government Decision

In West Bengal, government employees and pensioners are waiting for the state cabinet’s decision on DA revision and related pay matters.

The issue has remained under public discussion due to the gap between the DA offered by the state government and the rates provided to central government employees. Employee unions and opposition leaders have repeatedly demanded an increase in the allowance.

A final announcement from the state government is expected soon, following cabinet-level discussions.

Importance of Dearness Allowance

Dearness Allowance is an additional payment given to government employees and pensioners to help offset the impact of inflation. The allowance is revised periodically depending on economic conditions and changes in consumer price trends.

Any increase in DA directly affects monthly salaries and pension amounts, making it an important financial component for lakhs of families dependent on government income.

With several states already revising DA rates, more state governments could announce similar increases in the coming weeks.
