Annapurna Yojana Beneficiary List Goes Public for Transparency
Annapurna Yojana beneficiary list will be made public online as the government pushes transparency, strict verification, and women's welfare reforms across the state.
Annapurna Yojana Beneficiary List to Go Public: Women’s Welfare Scheme Gets Transparency Push
The state government has announced that the beneficiary list of the newly launched Annapurna Yojana will be uploaded on the official departmental website, marking a major step toward transparency in welfare distribution. The decision comes after the scheme’s formal rollout, where ₹3,000 was directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 28 lakh women beneficiaries.
Officials said the initiative is designed not only to provide financial assistance but also to ensure strict verification and accountability in identifying eligible recipients.
Massive Rollout and Financial Impact
During the launch event at Nabanna Sabhaghar, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari inaugurated the scheme and confirmed that ₹3,000 was credited to 28.25 lakh women across the state. He described the program as a significant welfare measure aimed at supporting women’s financial independence.
However, the scheme is expected to place a substantial burden on the state exchequer, estimated at nearly ₹70,000 crore annually, prompting the government to emphasise strict eligibility checks and transparent implementation.
Multi-Level Verification System Introduced
To prevent inclusion errors and eliminate ineligible beneficiaries, the government has introduced a multi-step verification process:
- Initial verification by block-level extension officers
- Re-verification by Block Development Officers (BDOs)
- Final approval by District Magistrates
Officials handling verification will be required to sign off at each stage, ensuring accountability at every level.
Public Access to Beneficiary Data
Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal stated that the beneficiary list will be made publicly accessible on the department’s website. Citizens will be able to:
- Check eligibility status online
- Raise complaints if ineligible names are included
- Apply if eligible but excluded
Authorities assured that every complaint will be investigated and necessary corrections will be made to maintain fairness in the scheme.
Online and Offline Application Process
The government has also introduced both online and offline application modes. Beneficiaries can fill out forms at local administrative offices such as BDO, SDO, DM offices, and municipalities. For those unable to travel, officials will assist by visiting homes to complete documentation.
Additionally, women can apply online through the official portal socialsecurity@wb.gov.in. The application process will remain open for the next three months.
Move Toward Broader Transparency
Officials indicated that the government may extend this transparency model to other welfare schemes as well. The objective is to remove duplicate or ineligible beneficiaries and ensure that public funds are directed only to genuine recipients.
According to internal estimates, if previous beneficiary lists had been fully accepted, the state would have had to support over 2.2 crore beneficiaries, including potentially ineligible entries. The new verification system is expected to streamline the database significantly.
