Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam also called as TTD. Tirupati, situated in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India, harbors the revered Hindu shrine, the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. It is located at a distance of 250 km from Bangalore, 150 km from Chennai, and 406 Km from Amaravati. Among the eight Svayam Vyakta Kshetras, or Self-Manifested Temples, dedicated to Vishnu, this temple is one.
In Dravidian translation, tiru means Lakshmi or sacred and Pati means abode or husband.
Tirumala covers an area of approximately 26.8 sq. km and it is located 980 meters above sea level. We all know Tirumala is a famous temple and for its 7 hills. The names of the 7 hills are Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrushabadri, Narayanadri, and Venkatadri. The Temple is in Venkatadri.
Devotees are constantly coming here for pilgrimages. Devotees are very crowded here. Sometimes it may take 2 or 3 days for darshan. The devotees are provided with all necessary facilities by Tirumala Devasthanam.
Brahmotsavams are held very grandly here. These are held for nine days. Usually, Brahmotsavams take place in the month of September or October.
The Varaha Purana states that during the Treta Yuga, Rama, accompanied by Sita and Lakshmana, resided in this location upon his return from Lankapuri. Additionally, the Purana recounts that Balaji sought a loan of one crore and 11.4 million gold coins from Kubera for his marriage to Padmavathi. To repay this substantial debt, devotees from across India visit the temple and make monetary donations.
Interestingly, Aug 02 is the birthday of Tirupati Laddu. The day when prasadam was distributed for the first time in Tirupati was August 02, 1715.
