DK Shivakumar Announces Major Bengaluru Revamp on Day 1 in Office

Bengaluru witnessed a swift governance push as Karnataka’s newly sworn-in Chief Minister  DK Shivakumar outlined a series of key decisions focused on infrastructure, housing, and urban development shortly after taking oath.

Known for his strong organisational and crisis management skills during his long political career, Shivakumar moved quickly to shift from politics to governance, prioritising immediate public concerns in the state capital.

 ₹2,000 Crore Push for Bengaluru Roads

One of the most significant announcements was the diversion of  ₹2,000 crore specifically for improving Bengaluru’s road infrastructure.

The funds will be used to address long-standing issues such as:

* Poor road conditions and potholes
* Severe traffic congestion
* Delayed maintenance of key arterial routes

Bengaluru, often referred to as India’s IT capital, has struggled with rapid urban expansion, where infrastructure has not kept pace with population growth and vehicle density. The initiative aims to provide relief to daily commuters and improve connectivity across major tech and residential corridors.
