Apple Releases iOS 26.5 With New Features and Security Upgrades

Apple has officially started rolling out iOS 26.5 for iPhone users worldwide after several weeks of beta testing. Although the update does not yet include the much-anticipated Siri upgrade with Gemini AI integration, Apple has still introduced several useful improvements focused on privacy, messaging, navigation and overall user experience.

The company is expected to reveal its next-generation Siri features during the upcoming WWDC 2026 keynote, but iOS 26.5 already brings a number of notable additions that continue Apple’s major redesign journey introduced with recent iOS versions.

End-to-End Encrypted RCS Messaging Arrives

One of the biggest highlights of iOS 26.5 is support for end-to-end encrypted Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging in beta. The feature improves security for conversations between iPhone and Android users by ensuring messages remain private while being transmitted between devices.

Users updating to iOS 26.5 will now notice encrypted labels and lock icons appearing in supported RCS chats. This means conversations cannot be accessed by third parties while messages are being sent and received.

Apple first began testing encrypted RCS messaging earlier this year. While the feature was initially expected to arrive in iOS 26.4, the company delayed the rollout until now.

The move marks another major step in Apple’s changing relationship with RCS technology. For years, Apple relied heavily on iMessage while maintaining limited compatibility between iPhones and Android devices. However, the company officially added RCS support with iOS 18, significantly improving messaging features such as photo sharing, typing indicators, read receipts and reactions across platforms.

Improvements to Apple Maps and the App Store

iOS 26.5 also introduces refinements to Apple Maps and the App Store. Apple has focused on smoother navigation performance, better location accuracy and improved app discovery tools.

The App Store now includes minor interface enhancements and updated recommendation systems designed to help users discover apps more efficiently.

Liquid Glass Design Continues to Evolve

Apple continues refining its modern “Liquid Glass” interface design language, which has become one of the most noticeable visual changes in recent iOS versions. The update includes smoother animations, polished transitions and additional user interface tweaks across the operating system.

The company is also delivering multiple background security updates and performance improvements aimed at enhancing system stability and battery efficiency for compatible iPhones.

More Features Expected at WWDC 2026

Although iOS 26.5 is considered a smaller update compared to previous feature-heavy releases, it still plays an important role in preparing users for the next generation of Apple software experiences.

Many industry analysts expect Apple to showcase major artificial intelligence upgrades, smarter Siri functionality and deeper cross-device integration during the upcoming WWDC 2026 event.
