Mumbai Rains Alert | Schools, Colleges Closed as City Faces Waterlogging

Mumbai witnessed heavy overnight rainfall that continued into the morning, leading to widespread waterlogging across several parts of the city. The downpour disrupted normal life, affecting road traffic, train services, and daily commuters.

Schools and colleges remain shut for safety

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the closure of all schools and colleges on Tuesday as a precautionary measure. The decision was taken after severe waterlogging was reported in areas like Dadar, Sion, Kurla, Andheri, and Chembur, making travel unsafe for students and staff. Authorities also urged citizens to step out only if necessary.

Train and traffic disruptions across the city

Local train services, considered the lifeline of Mumbai, were delayed on Central and Western lines due to water accumulation on tracks. Several BEST bus routes were either diverted or canceled. Heavy traffic jams were reported on the Eastern Express Highway, Western Express Highway, and major link roads, causing inconvenience to office-goers.

IMD issues warning of more rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Mumbai and surrounding areas. According to the forecast, intense showers are expected to continue for the next 24 hours, with a possibility of isolated very heavy rainfall in some regions. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to stay alert.

Citizens advised to stay safe

The BMC has deployed pumping machines in flooded zones and is closely monitoring the situation. Rescue teams are on standby to respond to emergencies. Authorities have appealed to residents not to spread rumors and to follow only official updates.
