Air India Temporarily Suspends And Cuts International Flights Till August 2026
Air India has announced temporary suspensions and frequency reductions on several international routes between June and August 2026. The airline stated that the move is aimed at maintaining operational stability and avoiding unexpected last-minute disruptions for passengers.
According to Air India, rising operational challenges due to restricted international airspace and record-high aviation fuel costs have made certain long-haul routes difficult to operate efficiently. Instead of sudden cancellations, the airline has decided to rationalise services in advance.
The biggest impact is on routes connecting India with North America, Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia. Among the major changes, the Delhi–Chicago route has been temporarily suspended, while flights from Delhi to San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver have been reduced. However, Mumbai–Newark flights will now operate daily.
Several European destinations, including Paris, Rome, Zurich, Vienna, Milan, and Copenhagen, will also see reduced weekly services. In Australia, Air India has cut Delhi–Melbourne and Delhi–Sydney services from daily operations to four flights per week.
Asian routes have witnessed significant adjustments as well. Flights from Delhi to Shanghai have been suspended until August, while Chennai–Singapore, Mumbai–Dhaka, and Delhi–Malé services have also been temporarily paused. Routes to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Kathmandu, Colombo, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Singapore will continue with fewer weekly flights.
Despite the temporary reductions, Air India confirmed that it will continue operating over 1,200 international flights every month across five continents. The airline says affected passengers will be offered alternative travel options, rescheduling support, or full refunds depending on ticket conditions.
Air India also dismissed viral social media rumours claiming that all international flights had been cancelled due to fuel shortages. The airline clarified that only selected routes are affected as part of a temporary schedule adjustment and advised travellers to rely only on official updates through its website, app, customer care, and verified social media channels.
