Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026: BJP Releases First List of 27 Candidates
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its first list of 27 candidates for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, fielding several prominent leaders across key constituencies. Union Minister L Murugan has been nominated from Avanashi, while BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan will contest from Coimbatore North.
The candidate list highlights the party’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the western belt and urban regions of Tamil Nadu, which are seen as politically significant battlegrounds in the upcoming polls. Apart from Murugan and Vanathi, several senior BJP leaders and sitting representatives have also been given tickets in constituencies considered crucial for the NDA alliance.
Interestingly, former state BJP president K Annamalai’s name is missing from the first list, triggering political discussions over the party’s electoral calculations and seat-sharing dynamics within the alliance. Political observers believe the BJP is focusing on winnable seats and prominent faces to boost its prospects in the 2026 state election.
With Tamil Nadu heading to polls later this month, the BJP’s first candidate announcement is expected to intensify the political battle, especially in constituencies like Avanashi and Coimbatore North, where the party hopes to consolidate its support base.
