Mamata Banerjee’s Powerful Words: Speaking Up for Bengal’s Future

West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has alleged that the Left parties and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are working together to stir up trouble in the state. Her accusation follows an incident of vandalism at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday night, where a group destroyed the protest area, and damaged vehicles, and public property. Banerjee asserted that those responsible for the chaos were not associated with the student movement and suggested they had ties to the BJP.

Mamata Banerjee said she fears "Bam and Ram," the Left and the BJP, are joining hands to foment trouble in Bengal. The CM also claimed that yesterday's RG Kar Hospital rampagers were harendra outsiders, not part of the student movement at RG Kar Medical College. He said he had seen some videos, where all the people in the videotapes carrying national flags were BJP workers, while the ones carrying red and white flags seemed to be related to the DYFI.

On Wednesday night, a gang enters into RG Kar Hospital Campus resulting in a dangerous death. Security officials tried to disperse the crowd. Mr Banerjee praised the level head of the police during the chaos. "Yesterday, the police were attacked, and two Officer-in-charges and one Deputy Commissioner who were on security duty disappeared. For one hour, they were missing; later, they were found unconscious with blood pouring from their heads. I called the police at 3 am to see that they were admitted to Apollo Hospital. I must compliment them for their patience. Nobody used force, despite the provocation."

She further added that the case has already been transferred to the CBI. "This case is now under the control of CBI. If you have any concerns, take them up with the CBI—we have no objections," she said. For the RK Kar rape and murder case, the CM had said at least for such a heinous crime, the death penalty must be awarded. A post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead at the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 and her family members alleged that she had been raped and murdered. "Now this is the only answer: grave crime, punish the accused by way of execution. Then and then only will the message go to others. But at the same time, no innocent should be punished," Banerjee said in a public message. Now, doctors and medical professionals are protesting all over India, seeking strong action against the perpetrators.
