India Faces Severe Heatwave As Temperatures Near 48°C, IMD Issues Nationwide Alert Till May 28

Several parts of India continue to experience intense heatwave conditions, with temperatures nearing 48 degrees Celsius in multiple regions. The extreme weather has prompted authorities to issue health advisories and urge people to take precautions against prolonged exposure to heat.

According to the India Meteorological Department, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist across northwest, central, eastern, and some peninsular regions of the country until May 28.

Rising Heat Stress Across Major Regions

Meteorologists have warned that soaring daytime temperatures, combined with unusually warm nights, are significantly increasing heat stress levels. The absence of nighttime cooling has made conditions more difficult, particularly in crowded urban areas and regions where people depend heavily on outdoor work.

Health experts have advised children, senior citizens, and people with existing medical conditions to avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours and remain hydrated.

Power Disruption In Gurgaon Amid Extreme Weather

Amid the scorching temperatures, parts of Gurgaon experienced a major power outage on Friday night after a technical fault occurred at a 220kV substation in Sector 72.

The disruption affected electricity supply in several areas and also impacted services on the Rapid Metro. Due to the interruption, many commuters reportedly faced delays and were forced to walk along tracks to reach nearby metro stations.

Authorities Urge Safety Precautions

Officials have advised residents to limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, wear light clothing, and consume adequate fluids to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

The ongoing heatwave has once again highlighted the growing impact of extreme weather conditions across the country as several states continue to record unusually high temperatures.
