Govt Doubles 5 Kg LPG Allocation for Migrant Workers, Students Under Revised Daily Quota
In a major relief move, the Delhi government has doubled the daily allocation of 5 kg LPG cylinders for migrant workers and students, ensuring better fuel access during the ongoing supply pressure linked to the West Asia crisis. The revised arrangement now makes 1,368 small cylinders available every day, offering much-needed support to vulnerable groups in the city.
According to the latest government statement, the quota for commercial LPG meant for migrant workers and students has been increased from 180 to 360 cylinders per day (19 kg equivalent). This enhancement comes under the updated overall daily cap of 6,480 cylinders, where essential services continue to receive top priority through a first-come, first-served system.
The government has also instructed oil marketing companies (OMCs) to strictly follow the revised daily distribution limit. Any surplus stock from one category can now be shifted to another segment, but only after ensuring valid demand is fulfilled across all categories. Authorities have been asked to keep the Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs informed about every inter-category transfer.
Delhi Food and Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the administration is committed to maintaining a smooth fuel supply and preventing panic among citizens. He dismissed reports of gas shortage as rumours and warned that strict inspections are underway against hoarding and black marketing, with immediate criminal action against violators.
Residents and temporary workers have been advised to book cylinders only through authorised OMC channels, while those looking for a long-term alternative have been encouraged to shift to PNG connections wherever available. The move is expected to ease pressure on cooking fuel access for daily wage earners, students, and migrant families living in Delhi.
