ChatGPT Now Lets Users Link Bank Accounts for Finance Help
OpenAI introduces ChatGPT personal finance tools that let Pro users link bank accounts via Plaid for budgeting, spending analysis, and investment insights.
ChatGPT Introduces Personal Finance Tools With Bank Account Integration for Pro Users
OpenAI has announced a new personal finance experience inside ChatGPT, allowing users to securely connect their bank accounts and receive AI-powered financial insights. The feature is currently rolling out in preview mode for ChatGPT Pro users in the United States and marks a major expansion of AI-driven personal finance assistance.
The new finance integration uses Plaid, a widely used fintech connectivity platform that enables secure connections between financial institutions and applications. By linking bank accounts through Plaid, users can allow ChatGPT to analyse spending habits, balances, subscriptions, liabilities, and financial goals using real transaction data.
According to OpenAI, the new feature is designed to help users better understand their finances and make smarter money decisions. Once connected, users will be able to access a personalised financial dashboard showing portfolio summaries, monthly spending trends, upcoming payments, and budgeting insights.
The company says ChatGPT can use the shared financial information alongside user-defined priorities to identify patterns, suggest savings opportunities, and assist with long-term planning. Suggested use cases include:
- Budget and savings planning
- Subscription tracking and review
- Travel spending analysis
- Investment risk assessment
- Cash flow management
- Financial goal planning
The finance dashboard is available through web browsers and iOS devices for eligible Pro users in the U.S. OpenAI noted that support extends across thousands of financial institutions. Screenshots released by the company show integrations with popular banks and services, including American Express, Bank of America, Charles Schwab, and Robinhood.
OpenAI also confirmed that integration with Intuit services such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, and QuickBooks will be added in the future, further expanding ChatGPT’s financial ecosystem.
Privacy and security remain key concerns as AI tools become more deeply integrated into personal data. OpenAI stated that ChatGPT cannot view complete bank account numbers, but it can analyse balances, transactions, debts, and liabilities to provide recommendations. Users will also have control over their data, including the ability to disconnect financial accounts, delete stored financial memories, or use temporary chats that do not appear in conversation history.
The launch comes shortly after public debate around the growing use of AI for financial decision-making. Interest in AI budgeting and finance assistants has increased rapidly, with OpenAI claiming that nearly 200 million users already use ChatGPT monthly for budgeting questions, investment research, and personal finance planning.
