Bihar Weather Alert: Storms, Heavy Rain Likely Across 38 Districts
A Bihar weather alert has been issued for all 38 districts with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and winds up to 60 kmph. Monsoon may arrive four days early this year.
Heavy rain and thunderstorm activity are expected across Bihar today as the weather department has issued alerts for all 38 districts of the state. According to the latest forecast, strong winds, lightning, and moderate to heavy rainfall may affect several regions, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain cautious. Weather experts have also indicated that the southwest monsoon could arrive in Bihar nearly four days earlier than its normal schedule this year.
Out of the 38 districts, 16 districts have been placed under an Orange Alert due to the possibility of severe thunderstorms, intense rainfall, and strong wind activity. The remaining 22 districts are under a Yellow Alert, where moderate weather disturbances are expected. Wind speeds during the storm activity could reach up to 60 kmph in several areas, increasing the risk of tree falls, power disruptions, and traffic-related problems.
Meteorologists believe the changing weather conditions are linked to strong moisture flow from the Bay of Bengal, combined with active cyclonic circulation in eastern India. The early advancement of the monsoon is expected to bring relief from rising temperatures and humid conditions that have affected the state over the past few weeks. However, officials have warned that sudden thunderstorms and gusty winds may also cause local damage in vulnerable areas.
Residents have been advised to avoid open fields, stay indoors during lightning activity, and take precautions while travelling. Farmers, especially those involved in harvesting and crop storage, have been urged to secure agricultural produce to avoid losses from rain and strong winds.
Several districts, including Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Purnia, and surrounding regions, are likely to witness cloudy skies, intermittent rainfall, and thunderstorm activity throughout the day. Disaster management teams and local administration departments have been placed on alert to handle any emergency situations arising from severe weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is continuously monitoring the weather system and is expected to issue further updates depending on the movement of rain-bearing clouds and wind patterns. If the current conditions continue, Bihar could officially welcome the monsoon earlier than usual, marking one of the earliest arrivals in recent years.
