Pizza Hut Japan Launches ‘Drinkable’ Cheese Curry Pizza, Internet Can’t Stop Talking About It

Pizza Hut Japan has once again grabbed attention with one of its most unusual food creations — the new “Drinkable Cheese Curry Pizza.” Officially called the Nomeru Pizza Cheese Curry, the limited-edition item is already creating buzz among food lovers and social media users worldwide.

The unique pizza combines rich Japanese-style curry sauce with large amounts of melted Gouda cheese layered over soft pizza dough. According to the brand, the pizza earned its “drinkable” nickname because of its extremely creamy and molten texture, making every slice packed with gooey cheese and thick curry flavour.

Curry-flavoured pizzas are already popular in Japan, where Japanese curry is considered one of the country’s favourite comfort foods. Curry bread, cheese curry rice and similar dishes are common in restaurants and bakeries across the country. Pizza Hut Japan took inspiration from these familiar flavours and transformed them into a bold new pizza experience.

Unlike traditional pizzas that mainly use mozzarella, this special item uses Gouda cheese for a stronger aroma and richer taste. The sharper flavour of Gouda blends with the savoury curry sauce to create a deeper and creamier texture that stands out from regular pizza varieties.

The pizza is being sold for a limited time only and will remain available at participating Pizza Hut Japan outlets until June 15. A personal-sized version starts at around 700 yen, while medium-sized pizzas are priced at approximately 2,230 yen. Customers can also order combo meals that include fries and fried chicken.

Social media users have been reacting strongly to the launch, with many calling it both strange and tempting at the same time. Food bloggers and international fans of Japanese fast food have praised the creativity behind the item, while others joked that Japan continues to invent pizza toppings the rest of the world would never imagine.

Over the years, Pizza Hut Japan has become known for releasing unconventional menu items that often go viral online. From seafood-inspired toppings to dessert pizzas and seasonal specials, the brand regularly experiments with flavours that differ greatly from menus in other countries.

Many international fans are now hoping the “Drinkable Cheese Curry Pizza” eventually expands beyond Japan, especially in countries where Japanese curry dishes already have a growing fan base. Until then, the limited-edition pizza remains one of the latest examples of Japan’s unique and adventurous fast-food culture.
