Sehrawat Secures Bronze in Paris: India's Wrestling Star Shines at 2024 Olympics

He belongs to the Sehrawat Jat family of Birohar in Jjhajar district of Haryana. Both parents died at a young age due to different health problems. The first step in wrestling, he participated in a panchayat clay wrestling competition. Inspired by Sushil Kumar's silver medal win at the 2012 Olympics, he joined Delhi's Chatrasal Stadium at the age of 10. He trained under coach Lalit Kumar and won his first national championship title in 2021. In 2022, he won a gold medal in the Under-23 Asian Championships and a yellow medal in the Under-23 World Championships. He became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Astana in 2023.
In January 2024, he won a gold medal in the 57 kg category at the Zagreb Open Wrestling Tournament. In it, he defeated all his opponents easily. On the 14th day of the competition held at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he fought Puerto Rico's Darien Toye Cruz and won by a margin of 13-5. Later in the Under-23 World Champion semi-final, he was defeated by Japan's Rei Higuchi with a margin of 0-10. Apart from that he broke PV Sindhu's record by winning an Olympic medal at the youngest age. He gave India the sixth medal in the Paris Olympics.
