Jammu Weather Update: Rain, Thunderstorms Likely Today

Jammu, February 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive weather update for the Jammu division, forecasting a brief spell of unstable atmospheric conditions followed by a prolonged dry phase. Under the influence of a weak Western Disturbance, the region is expected to experience generally cloudy skies along with light rainfall or intermittent thundershowers today, February 10, 2026.

Meteorological data from the past 24 hours indicates that temperatures across Jammu have remained 2 to 5 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average. Despite this, weather experts predict a gradual transition in weather patterns as the week progresses, with clearer skies and rising daytime temperatures expected by the weekend.

Immediate Forecast: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Gusty Winds

For Tuesday, February 10, the IMD has projected a maximum temperature of 20°C and a minimum of 10°C. Residents are advised to stay alert, particularly during afternoon and evening hours, due to the possibility of brief but intense weather activity. The forecast includes:

  • Precipitation: Predominantly cloudy conditions with one or two spells of light rain or short-duration thundershowers.

  • Wind: Isolated thunderstorms may bring lightning and gusty winds, with wind speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph.

  • Visibility: Temporary reduction in visibility may occur during rainfall and thunderstorm activity.

Extended Outlook: Dry Weather Ahead

From Wednesday onward, the IMD expects dry weather to dominate the region, with partly cloudy to clear skies. No major weather disturbances are anticipated during this period. Daytime temperatures are likely to gradually increase, leading to relatively warmer afternoons, while nights will remain mildly cool.

Advisory for Residents

The IMD has advised residents to exercise caution during thunderstorm activity, especially in open areas. Farmers and orchard owners are advised to secure crops and farm equipment to minimise potential damage caused by gusty winds. Commuters are also urged to remain vigilant while travelling, as sudden showers may lead to slippery road conditions.
