India Meteorological Department Predicts Rain and Thunderstorms to Ease Heat in Patna
Residents of Bihar can expect some relief from the intense summer heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall and thunderstorms across several districts in the coming days. A yellow alert has been issued until April 30, warning of gusty winds, lightning, and scattered rainfall, particularly in north-central and north-eastern regions of the state.
According to weather officials, a cyclonic circulation over eastern Uttar Pradesh and northeast Jharkhand, combined with a subtropical westerly jet stream, is bringing moisture into Bihar. This system is expected to trigger widespread weather activity and gradually reduce temperatures.
The IMD has predicted a drop in daytime temperatures by around 3–4°C over the next three to four days, while night temperatures may fall by 1–3°C within the next two to three days. Recent weather data shows significant variation, with Forbesganj recording a minimum temperature of 21°C, while Bhabua experienced a high of 43.5°C.
In the past 24 hours, several districts, including Araria, Madhepura, Purnia, Supaul, and Kishanganj, witnessed heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph. Other north-central districts also experienced winds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open areas to reduce the risk of lightning strikes. The incoming weather system is expected to bring gradual relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions across the state.
