In a significant crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Fazilka police seized a drone carrying 571 grams of heroin near the Indo-Pak border in Punjab’s Fazilka district. The seizure took place in the Jalalabad sector, near Hazara Ram Singh Wala village, under Border Outpost Jodha Wala.

The operation was launched swiftly after a suspicious drone movement was detected near the international border. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and initiated a joint search effort.

Suspicious Drone spotted near border

According to a BSF spokesperson, the alert was triggered when a drone was observed flying close to the Indian side of the border, raising suspicions of an attempted narcotics drop. On noticing the activity, local police and BSF personnel moved quickly to secure the area and prevent any escape or further smuggling attempts.

Their prompt response led to the recovery of the drone, which was found carrying multiple packets containing heroin. The total weight of the seized narcotics was reported to be 571 grams.

Rising use of drones in smulggling

This incident adds to a growing list of similar attempts by drug traffickers who are increasingly using drones to transport narcotics across the Indo-Pak border. These aerial devices allow smugglers to bypass traditional land-based security and surveillance systems.

Officials say the increasing frequency of such drone intrusions highlights the evolving tactics of cross-border criminal networks. Security agencies are now stepping up surveillance and technology deployments to detect and neutralize these threats more effectively.

Investigation Underway

Following the seizure, a formal case has been registered, and a deeper investigation is underway to uncover the network involved in the attempted smuggling. Authorities are working to trace the origin of the drone, identify the intended recipients, and dismantle the broader smuggling operation.

The successful interception of this drone highlights the vigilance and coordination between the BSF and Punjab Police in securing India's borders. As drug traffickers adopt more sophisticated methods, it becomes increasingly important for security forces to adapt and respond with greater agility. Such operations not only prevent illegal drugs from entering the country but also send a strong message to those involved in cross-border smuggling.
