Bank Holiday Today on Good Friday: Are Banks Open or Closed on April 3, 2026? Check the RBI State-Wise Holiday List

Banks in several parts of India remain closed today, April 3, 2026, on the occasion of Good Friday, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s state-wise holiday calendar. Since bank holidays in India differ from state to state, physical branch services are unavailable in most cities, while a few locations continue normal banking operations. Customers planning to visit branches for services such as cash deposits, cheque clearance, locker access, demand drafts, or document verification should first check whether their city is observing the holiday today.

According to the RBI holiday schedule, banks are closed today in major states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, West Bengal, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Goa, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Andhra Pradesh. The Good Friday closure applies to most public and private sector banks, including SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, PNB, and Bank of Baroda branches operating in these states.

However, banks continue to remain open in a few cities and states where Good Friday is not listed as a branch holiday. As per the RBI list, branches are functional today in Tripura, Chandigarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, and Srinagar, allowing customers in these regions to complete branch-related work without interruption. This state-specific banking schedule often creates confusion among customers, especially during festival and religious holiday periods, making it important to verify the local holiday matrix before visiting the bank.

Even though physical branches are closed in many states, digital banking services continue to work normally across India. Customers can still use UPI apps, mobile banking, internet banking, ATMs, cash withdrawals, balance enquiry, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS scheduling, and credit card payments without any disruption. Only in-branch counter services are affected by today’s Good Friday holiday.

The RBI’s April 2026 holiday calendar also includes several more closures later in the month due to regional New Year festivals, Ambedkar Jayanti, Baisakhi, Bohag Bihu, Vishu, and other state-specific observances. Customers are advised to plan important branch visits, especially for cheque-related and document-based transactions, to avoid delays caused by consecutive holidays.
